Perlite

Perlite is a lightweight, porous growing medium used to improve the structure of potting mixes and growing substrates.

Perlite is made from a naturally occurring volcanic mineral that is heated to very high temperatures. The heat causes the mineral to expand into the lightweight, white granules commonly used in gardening and horticulture.

Add it to your growing medium to create more air space around the roots while allowing excess water to drain away - making it useful for seedlings, houseplants, vegetables, cuttings and container gardening.
