How to Plant & Grow Floradade Tomatoes in South Africa

1. When to Sow

Inland / Frost Areas: Sow indoors or under cover from August to September. Transplant out in October after the last frost.

Subtropical / Frost-Free Areas: Can be grown year-round, but ideally sown from February to September to avoid the peak mid-summer pest season.

2. Sowing & Germination

Sow seeds 5mm deep in seedling trays using a high-quality seed starting mix. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.

Place in a warm, sunny spot.

3. Transplanting & Spacing

When seedlings reach roughly 10–15cm tall and have their first set of true leaves, transplant them into rich, well-draining soil mixed with organic compost.

Space plants 40–50cm apart in rows 60cm apart.

4. Care & Harvest

While Floradade is a determinate bush variety, a small stake or tomato cage helps keep the heavy clusters of fruit off the ground.

Water deeply at the base of the plant to prevent fungal diseases. Harvest when the tomatoes are uniformly bright red and yield slightly to gentle pressure.
